Peter Walker
Vera Causa Faculty member Peter Walker combines decades of law enforcement experience with communications and media relations expertise to help clients engage with their communities and successful manage media issues that come their way.
Walker recently retired from Rockland County District Attorney’s Office in New York as the Chief Criminal Investigator and Public Information Officer.
He began his law enforcement career with the New York City Police Department in 1994, patrolling the streets of the Bronx while assigned to the 48th Precinct. His assignments included patrol division, street narcotics unit, and community policing unit. In 1999, he moved to the Clarkstown Police Department, in Rockland County, NY. Shortly after joining the force, he became very active within the Clarkstown Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) including positions of president of the union. Walker focused on forging relationships with the police administration to increase training, community relations and a positive work environment.
His public advocacy for the PBA and the Clarkstown Police Department helped build an incredibly strong bond between the community and the department. This advocacy helped launch him into the role of Public Information Officer. Walker has been credited for building a robust social media/communications platform for his department. He retired from the Clarkstown Police Department in January of 2020, serving honorably in law enforcement for 26 years.
In 2020, Walker was appointed as the Chief Criminal Investigator and agency spokesperson of the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office. In addition to building a vibrant and effective strategic communications department, he oversaw 30 investigators and support staff and served as the liaison to outside police agencies to ensure the District Attorney’s Office worked effectively and efficiently with its partners.
Throughout his law enforcement and U.S. Navy career, he conducted training for law enforcement administrators, detective bureaus, the media, U.S. Navy personnel, and foreign naval personnel. At the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, Peter conducted training on Cyber/Crypto Dark Web Investigations, case management, building an agency media platform, and Investigating/Prosecuting ICAC and Internet Predator Cases. In the Navy, Peter conducted training on (AIS)- Automatic Identification System and Sovereign Nation Security, and Leadership- Challenging Your Replacement.
Chief Walker received multiple commendations and citations for his law enforcement successes. He is an active member of the International Police Chiefs Association and a member of the Rockland County Police Chiefs Association. He is also a very proud retiree of the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer, serving 26 years of military service.
